About Us
McGrathNicol is an independent professional services firm specialising in Cyber, Deals, Forensic, Performance, Restructuring, and Risk & Compliance. For more than 20 years, we have supported organisations to navigate critical moments, from growth and transformation through to financial stress and uncertainty, across the private, public and not-for-profit sectors. Guided by our values – Understanding, Commitment and Impact – we are client-focused, collaborative and committed to creating an environment where our people can do their best work and continue to grow their careers.
The Opportunity
Working with nationally and internationally recognised forensic accounting experts, you will help courts, clients and their legal advisers navigate the financial aspects of commercial disputes, providing impartial advice and practical solutions to achieve the best possible outcomes.
You will be involved in building client relationships and pursuing opportunities, delivering clear and technically sound solutions on an interesting array of assignments, and driving continuous improvement in the quality and efficiency of deliverables and client service. An excellent career path is on offer with plenty of room to grow.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with fraud, corruption, bribery, financial crime and misconduct investigations, including matters arising from whistleblower allegations, procurement activities and other integrity concerns.
- Analyse financial records, transactions, electronic information and other evidence to identify unusual activity, understand events and support investigative findings.
- Undertake background research and open-source intelligence enquiries, and assist with preparing for and conducting interviews with witnesses and other relevant parties.
- Support clients with fraud, bribery and corruption risk assessments, AML/CTF compliance and financial crime reviews, including assessing existing controls and identifying opportunities for improvement.
- Undertake forensic accounting and financial analysis, including reviewing financial statements and accounting records, analysing transactions and tracing the flow of funds.
- Assist with other forensic advisory matters, including commercial disputes, quantification of loss and other financial analysis, working alongside senior members of the team to prepare clear, evidence-based reports and advice.
About You
We are looking for someone who is curious, analytical and interested in understanding what happened, how it happened and what the evidence tells us.
You will ideally have:
- A relevant undergraduate degree in accounting, commerce, finance, business, or law.
- Approximately 1–4 years of relevant professional experience, which may have been gained in forensic accounting, audit, financial crime, investigations, risk and compliance, insolvency, corporate finance or another professional services environment.
- A genuine interest in forensic accounting, fraud and financial investigations, with an appetite to develop experience across both investigative and more traditional forensic accounting assignments.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with an ability to work through financial statements, accounting records, transactions and other financial and non-financial information methodically.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, good attention to detail and an enquiring mindset, including the confidence to ask questions when something does not make sense.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint, with an interest in developing more advanced financial analysis and data skills.
- The ability to work effectively as part of a collaborative team and manage competing priorities.
- An interest in undertaking, or working towards, a relevant professional qualification such as Chartered Accountant (CA) would be advantageous but is not essential.
