The Opportunity

The Payroll Manager will oversee internal and outsourced payroll, ensuring payroll activities are accurate and compliant in an increasingly complex regulatory environment. The role is responsible for finalising the delivery of several important payroll projects, including an HRIS integration and Pay Day Super.

 

Key Responsibilities

Payroll Governance and Oversight

  • Oversee end-to-end payroll processing, including the outsource provider, to ensure accuracy, timeliness and compliance
  • Act as the escalation point for complex payroll matters, including exceptions, corrections and sensitive matters such as terminations
  • Assess, then strengthen the payroll control environment including process documentation
  • Collaborate with HR and Finance to ensure the remaining steps of the SuccessFactors – Payroll integration are ready for go-live

Risk, Compliance and Regulatory

  • Lead organisational readiness for Payday Super, including changes to payroll processes, reconciliations and cut‑off controls
  • Ensure ongoing compliance with employment regulations, including Award assessment (where relevant)
  • Own payroll related regulatory change, including interpretation, impact assessment and implementation
  • Identify and manage payroll risks by monitoring workforce changes and system changes. Implement controls and process improvements.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Partner closely with Finance and HR to support payroll related initiatives and decision making
  • Provide clear advice to senior stakeholders on payroll risks, compliance obligations and regulatory change

 

About You

  • A strong working knowledge of Australian payroll, taxation and superannuation legislation
  • Proven experience managing payroll risk and designing or maintaining robust payroll controls
  • Hands‑on experience with mid‑ to top‑tier enterprise payroll systems
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to provide clear, trusted advice to senior leaders
  • Experience within a professional services firm (preferred)
  • Exposure to working with outsourced payroll providers (desirable)
  • Excellent attention to detail and a high level of accuracy
  • Sound judgement when handling sensitive, complex or high‑risk payroll matters
  • Clear, confident communication skills, particularly with senior and non‑technical stakeholders
